On Thursday, March 16, 2017 Peachstate Audio hosted a Microphone Showcase at their location in Sugar Hill, GA.
There was a wide representation of microphones with many manufacturers present, including Sennheiser, Shure, Audio-Technica, Audix, Galaxy, AKG, Electro-Voice, Airwave Technologies, TOA, Clock Audio, and CAD Audio.
In the morning, customers browsed through products and were able to get hands-on time with all of the products and ask manufacturers questions.
In addition to the manufacturer tables, there was also a “People’s Choice” table that had wired microphones from manufacturers in three different price categories. These categories were: $0-199, $200-399, $400 & up. The only parameters for the microphones were to be wired and fit within a price category, so customers were able to get hands-on time with many different types of categories at our listening station. The winners of each category are below.
Segment 1 Winner: EV ND96
The ND96 is a robust, high-performance, large-diaphragm dynamic supercardioid vocal microphone. Designed for excellent acoustic control on very loud stages, the ND96’s special structural and acoustical designs create performance characteristics allowing the microphone’s gain before feedback in a mix to be significantly louder than most microphones.
Segment 2 Winner: Sennheiser MK4
Professional quality cardioid condenser microphone for home, project, and professional studios. A 1” true condenser capsule produces powerful warm sound. Highly sensitive. Ideal for vocals, and acoustic instruments.
Segment 3 Winner: CAD Audio 1700VP
Continuously Variable Pattern Condenser Microphone System with Remote Polar Control. Featuring a feather light 56” boom and exclusive Clutch Rotation System, this boom can be mounted on any standard microphone tripod or base stand.
After everyone broke for lunch, the event moved to the showroom for the educational sessions. For the first time, Peachstate Audio live streamed the educational sessions via facebook live. First up was Steve Wingo from Sennheiser, speaking on General RF Management and The Future of Digital Wireless. Next up was Chris Adler from Shure touching on the recent 600 MHz incentive auction update. Staying on this topic, Audio-Technica touched on 2.4 GHz and how to know when to use it. The videos are below and you can watch the livestream of our event on our facebook page, which has since garnered over 1,000 views!
